Angelica Gonzalez and her family went to sleep last night never imagining they would be awaken by blaring smoke detectors.
“Everybody’s asleep and next thing I see my home on fire,” Angelica describes tearfully. She says she worried that everybody would die.
Neighbor Aaron Versluis ran out to help the family.
“I came running down, and my girlfriend called 911,” Aaron says. “I asked if everyone was out of the house and they said yes everybody is out.”
Angelica, her husband and two young boys as well as their aunt, uncle and cousin were all in the home at the time of the fire and thankfully all made it out. The family is now though dealing with the death of their puppy Chihuahua named Tiger.
The newly sided and remodeled 2 story house was a total loss.
“Everything new; I remodeled by bathroom, my kitchen, I just bought new beds for my sons,” Angelica says.
Aaron Versluis and his son Austin, who is classmates with one of the sons, brought over a bag of whatever they could offer.
Austin says he put some of his toys in the bag because he felt bad for the young boys.
Angelica told us she appreciates the support from the neighbors. She also said that having her family safe is what matters most. But as she looks on to the pile of debris that just hours before was her home, the reality hits and the tears start to flow.
“Everything is there,” she says as she tearfully looks to the home.
The Red Cross has responded and is assisting the family. A neighbor, Denise Cheesman says that she will take donations for the family at her home.
