Charges upgraded against woman who allegedly shot and killed husband

A woman accused of shooting her husband in the head is telling police it was an accident.

A woman accused of shooting her husband in the head is telling police it was an accident. Meanwhile, charges against Robin Atchison, 29, of Alpha were upgraded on Monday, May 6, 2013.

Atchison sobbed as she entered the Henry County courtroom for a hearing, now charged with involuntary manslaughter in the death of her 21-year-old husband, Trevor Atchison.

"The facts allege right now, that she had the .22 caliber rifle, that she thought the safety was on. She pulled the trigger, while the gun was pointing at his direction, the gun went off and ultimately, he died," said Henry County States Attorney Terry Patton, after court.

"Right now we have her charged with pulling a trigger when she believed the safety to be on which would be a reckless act. Involuntary manslaughter," he said.

While his wife appeared in court in Cambridge, funeral services were being held for Atchison in nearby Alpha.

Patton says the case is still under investigation.
