After suffering from eating disorders in her teenage years, a woman experimented with her self-esteem by not looking in the mirror for a whole year.
Kjerstin Gruys vowed to not check her reflection for one year, in an effort to boost her self-esteem and focus on other matters. The year of experiences filled her new book, “Mirror, Mirror Off the Wall.”
Gruys was so set on skipping the self-glances that she didn’t even look in the mirror on her wedding day.
“I don’t have any regrets about not seeing myself on my wedding day,” said Gruys. “I think that I was able to more fully engage in the day itself.”
After one-year she unveiled her reflection in a mirror lined with notes of encouragement from her supporters.
“I see a happy, energetic, passionate woman,” said Gruys, after seeing herself.
Gruys advises that it’s best not to worry about appearances and focus more on other things you have going on in your life.
