Niabi Zoo sees charitable Saturday

The spirit of charity was in the air as a community walked to find a cure for diabetes and the Niabi Zoo received a donation from local stores and an author.

The spirit of charity was in the air as a community walked to find a cure for diabetes and the Niabi Zoo received a donation from local stores and an author.

On Saturday, May 4, 2013 a check for $2,366 was presented to Niabi Zoo Director, Marc Heinzman. The check was presented by Hy-Vee and author of “Why Isn’t the Zoo a Pet Store Too?” Blake Ross.

Proceeds of the book’s sales sold at Quad City and Clinton Hy-Vees is where the donation money came from.

The 2-mile Quad Cities 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes was held at the zoo by JDRF-a group with the mission of treating, curing, and preventing Type 1 Diabetes.

Over 2,000 people participated in the walk. So far the group has reached almost have of their goal to raise $205,000 toward finding a cure and improving patient treatments.
