Bad weather cancelled some Join Hands Day events on Saturday, May 4 but that didn’t stop volunteers from getting their hands in the dirt.

Volunteers from the Royal Neighbors of America Home Office and area chapters had planned on planting gardens in Davenport and Moline, but will reschedule for another day in June.

Despite the weather, the Martin Luther King Center in Rock Island still had the Make-and-Take Container Garden event.

As for the vegetable and herb gardens in Davenport and Moline, it is estimated that when harvested, food from the gardens will feed nearly 100 women and their families.

The group of volunteers included people from local service organizations such as Girl Scouts, United Way, Casa Guanajuato Quad Cities, The Friends of Riverside Park Gardens, and others.
