After eight years, 96 months in all as Mayor of Moline, Don Welvaert’s almost left the building. On Wednesday, May 1, 2013 co-workers and city staffers are holding a farewell reception at city hall for Welvaert.

He didn’t seek re-election following his two terms and previous run as an alderman. Welvaert lists the expansion of Western Illinois University’s Riverfront Campus, the construction of Kone’s new tower and the new police facility as some of the city’s accomplishments during his time as mayor.

It's been a great ride, I’ve had a great staff at the city to work with, fantastic community leaders and we've been able to accomplish a lot over the last eight years,” says Mayor Welvaert.

The newly elected Mayor Scott Raes will be sworn in on May, 7, 2013.
