Crews in Davenport started the final phase of the River Drive resurfacing project Wednesday morning.  The project, expected to be done by mid-June, reduces River Drive down to one lane from Mound to Oneida Street.

The construction is likely to add extra time to everyone’s commute.  For the customers headed to Hope’s Bridal in the Village of East Davenport, the extra time is sure to add extra stress.

“Weddings are happy times, but they are stressful,” explains Hope’s consultant Katie Watson.

The owner of Hope’s Bridal Diane Neibuhr says she chose the location because of River Drive.  The heavily traveled road makes the shop easy to see and easy to access.  But she says with spring being their busy time, the delays from the construction adds extra frustration for her clients.

“Those last couple of days [before a wedding]which are the days that we tend to have a lot of things move out the door, they might have other appointments and those things can’t all be moved easily,” Diane says.”  “We can accommodate but they might be quite frustrated.”

Diane says though the construction timing is not ideal, she is thankful the city is taking action to better the main drag.

“We want the city to continue to improve and we support that as well, so it is an inconvenience but one that I guess we just live with and get through together.”
