Some middle school students got tips and stories from a professional dog sled racer.

To go along with what they’ve been learning in class, Wilson and John Deere Middle School students gathered to listen to Musher Ed Stielstra share some experiences from the Iditarod Race.

The presentation was a way to bring to life the lessons in the classroom.

“My job every day is working with dogs, and dogs have that youth,” said Stielstra. “It’s almost like being stuck in middle school. There’s never a bad day. There’s exciting days and there’s boring days, but it’s always going to be fun in some way.”

Stielstra said he plans on coming back next year to share more adventures on the trail.
