Davenport Community Schools plan to hold three community meetings in May to explain the A.L.I.C.E. school safety program as well as update proposed school boundary changes.
Possible school boundary changes for the 2013-2014 school year are still being discussed by the school board. District officials say they are reviewing school boundaries to promote neighborhood schools, increase efficiency in school transportation and to better balance use of school buildings. The district plans to incorporate the A.L.I.C.E. program as part of its crisis management plan. The program has been criticized for including countermeasures such as creating a distraction to help create opportunities to escape a crisis situation. Bettendorf and Moline are among other area districts considering the plan.
Wednesday, May 1 and Wednesday, May 8 meetings are planned to cover both topics. The May 1 meeting is in the gym at Eisenhower Elementary School, 2827 Jersey Ridge Road in Davenport. The May 8 meeting is in the large gym at Sudlow Intermediate School, 1414 East Locust Street in Davenport.
A third meeting is planned for Thursday, May 9 in the gym at Williams Intermediate School, 3040 N. Division Street in Davenport. That meeting will be devoted to discussing the A.L.I.C.E. school safety program only.
