Members of the Floreciente community will speak up Monday night against the possible closing of Ericsson Elementary.

As previously reported, the Moline School District plans to close both Ericsson and Garfield Elementary Schools. That is part of a school district plan to save about $2 million.

Ericsson School sits in the Floreciente community on Moline's west side. Many of the children there speak English as a second language.

The district will move children from Garfield to Hamilton School on 7th Street. The district plans to add on to Hamilton to meet the increasing population.

The school district has a public forum Monday night at Hamilton and then Wednesday night at Garfield. Both start at 6 p.m.

The Floreciente meeting starts at 9 p.m. Monday at the Floreciente Community Center. The school district will vote on the closures at its May 13th board meeting.
