A Georgia high school had its very first integrated prom.
ABC News reports previously proms in the community were organized by parents and students, and were considered private events. On Saturday, April 27 after a group of students lobbied to end the practice, a prom was organized to include everyone.
Four girls, two black and two white asked for donations to help fund the dance.
“We were doing that so we could get the word out, so that some people would be able to donate and help us out with what we were doing,” said senior Mareshia Rucker.
Rucker said she hopes people in Wilcox County will start to embrace the new integrated proms.
