To get a taste of the summer to come, kids got out in the sun to enjoy many activities.

According to the corporate communications director, YMCA Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 27 provided a day of healthy activities for children and their families. The event held at the West Family YMCA is a national initiative to celebrate healthy living and support Quad City families in that effort.

Kids got to enjoy activities like a family petting zoo, indoor gardening demonstrations, bounce houses, and they also got free snow cones.

Executive Director of Child Care and Family Services, Deb Gustafson said venders were at the event partly to make families and parents in the community aware of services they have available to them. Vendors that were on site were Scott County Early Childhood Iowa, Inner Health Chiropractic, Davenport Fire and Police Departments, Davenport Parks and Recreation, the Quad Cities Association for the Education of Young Children, and more.

“We just want [parents] to come out and play with their children and have a good time because that’s what’s important,” Gustafson said.
