Americans have the nonnegotiable task of paying taxes on April 15 every year. Citizens get to celebrate a little on Tax Freedom Day- the day when the nation as a whole has earned enough money to pay its total tax bill for the year.

According to the Tax Foundation, the 2013 Tax Freedom Day for the United States came on April 18- five days later than it came in 2012. That date came even later this year for Illinoisans.

April 25 was the day Illinois residents could rest easy knowing their tax burdens for the year have been paid. For Iowa residents, Tax Freedom Day came on April 9. Only four states have Tax Freedom days later than Illinois.

The states with the earliest Tax Freedom days were Louisiana and Mississippi, who saw relief on March 29.
