Students team up for a rocket launch

Classes at an Illinois high school worked together to engineer rockets for a competition.

Physics and pre-calculus classes at Orion High School joined forces to build the best performing rocket for a launching competition on Thursday, April 25.

Teammates Caleb Dehamer and Benjamin VanDuyne said the two classes have separate duties that make the teams work. The seniors said the students in pre-calculus design the rockets and give recommendations to the physics students, and then those students take the math classes suggestions and build the rockets.

“You actually get to build your rocket,” said senior Katie Garrity. “You get to design it, and then you get to build it, which is a good experience to have.”

Students were judged on how well their rockets performed and their teamwork.

The Orion High School rocket launch has been going on for ten years.
