A rally to protest violence brought Quad City residents to gather in Rock Island.

On Thursday, April 25 at Schwiebert Park peace-lovers came to the annual Take Back the Night, a rally against violent crimes.

According to the Family Resources communications officer, the group holds the rally to literally take back the night. They said most people have a fear of nighttime and the mission of the rally is to calm the anxiety that comes along with it.

The mission of Family Resources in Davenport, Iowa is to provide a safe place for women, children, and families who have been victims of violence, domestic abuse, child abuse, sexual assault, and other forms of trauma.

“The majority of victims are female and it’s always astounding to know who many children are affected by sexual assault and domestic violence, said Nicole Cisne Durbin from Family Resources. “Crime doesn’t discriminate, violent crime doesn’t discriminate, and it affects everyone.”
