A Davenport Central High School senior was awarded a scholarship to help her pursue her interest in medicine.

Daphne Cornish says she plans to major in biology and minor in environmental science as she moves toward her goal of practicing medicine overseas as a member of Doctors Without Borders in South America.

The Dr. Thomas Anthony Dooley Memorial Scholarship is awarded each year to a Davenport Community School District senior in the upper ten percent of their class who shows a continued interest in the field of medicine with plans to become a medical doctor.

Applicants must also submit ACT scores and Advanced Placement classes completed, plus be interviewed by a scholarship selection panel.

Cornish was chosen from the four students who applied for this year’s scholarship.

The scholarship has been awarded annually since 1965.
