As a moment of silence was held in Boston Monday, many people remember the victims of the tragic Boston bombings. Many are also thankful for the first responders and law enforcement investigators who were first at the scene in Boston and lead the manhunt for the people responsible.
We took a look at the Quad Cities Bomb Squad and spoke to Gerry Bustos who explained how the same tools used on the job in Boston are ready to work in the Quad Cities.
“The tools that they have, the equipment they had, we have that there in the Quad Cities,” Bustos explains. “We are able to respond equally as affective as they did.”
Quad City Bomb Squad has state of the art tools like the robot. It records audio and video and can be controlled from a distance. It is the same type of machine that was used to tear off the tarp of the boat where the bombing suspect was hiding.
Bustos says it is one of the many pieces right here in the Quad Cities to protect our area.
“We always do everything we can to keep our Quad Cities family safe as possible and this equipment helps us do that,” Bustos tells us.
The Quad Cities Bomb Squad responds to calls or threats of explosive all around the area including the standoff that happened in Rock Island on Sunday.
