The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for Wednesday and Thursday for the Quad cities and surrounding areas.
A strong spring storm system moving through the area could bring between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain in just over 24 hours with repeated periods of rain. Locally heavier rainfall is possible, with four to five inches of potential rainfall.
“There is the potential for a training of storms tonight resulting in very heavy rains and significant flooding concerns,” said a statement on the NWS website.
Rainfall over the past week left the ground already saturated, increasing the risk for runoff to quickly lead to flash flooding.
The flash flood watch was in effect for Bureau, Hancock, Henderson, Henry (Illinois), McDonough, Mercer, Putnam, Rock Island, Warren, Whiteside, Des Moines, Henry (Iowa), Jefferson, Lee, Louisa, Muscatine, Scott, Van Buren, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Benton, Linn, Jones, Jackson, Iowa, Johnson, Cedar, Clinton, Keokuk, Washington, Jo Daviess, Stephenson, Carroll, Knox, Fulton, Cass, DeWitt, Marshall, Logan, Mason, McLean, Menard, Morgan, Peoria, Sangamon, Schuyler, Scott (Illinois), Stark, Tazewell and Woodford counties.
