A Moline doctor is among those who say patients should be allowed to get and use medical marijuana if their doctors recommend it.

Dr. Margaret Millar, a family practice doctor in Moline, said treatment for certain conditions can sometimes be worse than the disease.  She supports medical marijuana as a safer and milder alternative to narcotics.

Millar is one of about 250 Illinois doctors who signed on to this statement:

“Licensed medical practitioners should not be punished for recommending the medical use of marijuana to seriously ill people, and seriously ill people should not be subject to criminal sanctions for using marijuana if their medical professionals have told them that such use is likely to be beneficial.”

House Bill 1 would make Illinois the 19th state to allow people with certain medical conditions to use medical marijuana with a physician’s recommendation.   The bill would also create a network of state-regulated growers and providers of marijuana for medical use.

Capitolfax.com lists several QC-area doctors among those who support the bill.  For their list, click here.
