Davenport, Iowa officials have started taking flood control measures after water forced the closure of South Concord Street between River Drive and Wapello Avenue.

Davenport, Iowa officials have started taking flood control measures after water forced the closure of South Concord Street between River Drive and Wapello Avenue.

High water signs were placed along South Concord Street between Utah Avenue and River Drive.  Crews could close additional sections of South Concord Street to the west as the Mississippi River continues to rise.

Residents could still access businesses along Wapello Avenue and along River Drive west of Wapello Avenue.

Residents along South Concord and Enchanted Island can pick up sand bags at the Enchanted Inn parking lot.  Those whose homes might be affected by river stages between 13 and 15 feet can request sand bags from Davenport Public Works at (563) 326-7923.

No other flood control measures were expected to happen unless water levels crest at or above 16 feet.
