12-year-old cited for allegedly setting fire

The Burlington, Iowa fire marshal says a 12-year-old girl was cited for allegedly starting a fire that forced a woman and two children from their home.

The Burlington, Iowa fire marshal says a 12-year-old girl was cited for allegedly starting a fire that forced a woman and two children from their home.

The fire was reported at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at a home on the east side of the city.  A woman and two children who live in the home escaped unharmed.

Firefighters said flames and smoke were not visible from outside the home when they arrived.  They did discover damage from a small fire, extinguished before they arrived, in a bedroom.  Damage was confined to the carpeting and estimated at approximately $500.

Burlington Fire Marshal mark Crooks said the fire was intentionally set.  A 12-year-old girl was cited for reckless use of fire and released to her parent.

No injuries were reported.
