A man who was running from police and jumped into the Rock River has not yet been found.

According to the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office, deputies arrived to a Rock Falls home around 10 p.m. Friday, April 5, responding to a complaint that someone was banging on a resident’s front door.

Police say, as deputies arrived the suspect ran from them, beginning the foot-pursuit.

The suspect, described as a white man, jumped into the Rock River and was not seen resurfacing. Additional deputies and the Rock Falls Fire Department were called to do a rescue search. Police aren’t sure if the man got back onto the river bank before the rescue boat went out.

The man was not found. Police say he was wearing all black clothes and a black stocking cap.
