The fight to recover your losses will be affected by the type of card that gets compromised and when the loss happens.

Your liability for debit cards and credit cards is not the same if your account gets stolen.

The U.S. Public Interest Research Group says your ultimate liability for fraudulent use of your credit card is generally only $50, but debit card fraud could result in you losing $500 or more.
