A Joy, Illinois man faces a variety of charges after he allegedly tried to sell stolen property, leading police on a chase and forcibly stealing another person’s truck.

It started Tuesday, April 2, 2013 when Knox County, Illinois deputies were sent at about 4 p.m. to a tavern in East Galesburg because someone was reportedly trying to sell outboard moat motors and gasoline tanks stolen from Henderson County.

Police said the suspect, Steven Ellis, 29, got into a vehicle and fled the tavern.   When deputies followed  him, Ellis allegedly drove into a field before he ran into the woods near the 1600 block of Knox Road 1700 North.

Police said his passenger, 26-year-old Darcy Lynn Ball, was arrested there.  She was held in the Knox County Jail.

Nearby residents said they spotted Ellis trying to get into a parked vehicle.  When he was confronted, Ellis reportedly ran to another nearby home where he forcibly stole a truck from the resident.  That truck was found the next day in Rock Island County.

Police said Ellis also had an unrelated warrant for his arrest in Mercer County, and that his driver’s license was revoked.

Ellis was in custody in the Mercer County Jail.
