Motorists may have seen fire trucks and emergency vehicles in the westbound lanes of I-80 Thursday afternoon.
According to the Public Information Officer, a rest area maintenance worker was burning brush and it got out of control. The fire spread about a half a mile from its original location. The fire, which was reported around 12:45 p.m. was near Hidden Hills Golf Course in Bettendorf. Golfers on the course evacuated to the clubhouse.
The fire was out at about 2 p.m.
Thick smoke caused one lane of the interstate to be closed for about 30 minutes. There were no injuries.
