Missing Chicago woman found dead in trash chute

The body of an 80-year-old Chicago woman was found at the bottom of a high rise building’s trash chute two days after she was reported missing.

Florence Banta was reported missing by her daughter Saturday, March 30, 2013.  Banta lived on the 17th floor of a 48-story building in the 1500 block of North Astor in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood.

Banta’s body was found Monday, April 1 at the bottom of the building’s trash chute.  She apparently fell into the chute.

In February 2012, 16-year-old Charley Manley died of multiple injuries he suffered when he fell into the chute from the 46th floor.  His death was ruled an accident.
