Two Iowa children died when a train hit a minivan their mother drove around railroad crossing arms.

Police said Tara Lewman, 25, of Batavia, Iowa was at the wheel of a 2004 Dodge Caravan when she reportedly drove northbound around lowered crossing arms at the Fourth Street railroad crossing in Batavia.

An oncoming westbound BNSF train struck the passenger side of the van.

Lewman, and one-year-old Jordan Clark, were airlifted to the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Five-year-old Kallie Clark and four-year-old Erika Clark died as a result of injuries they suffered in the crash.

The crash happened Monday, April 4, 2013 just after 4 p.m.
