The school that recycles the most material per person in Iowa is Davenport Central High School.

That’s according to a recent Recycle-Bowl competition held by Keep America Beautiful.

More than 900,000 students from schools in all 50 states and the District of Columbia participated in the Recycle-Bowl.  Participating schools recycled as much as possible between October 15 and November 9, 2012.

Nationally, 4.5 million pounds of material was recycled during the competition.

The school’s Environmental Club led the efforts at Davenport Central.  Students recycled 14 pounds of material per person to earn the $1,000 prize money for the school.  The Environmental Club members will also be recognized at a pizza party at the Scott Area Recycling Center in Davenport.

“Keep America Beautiful is pleased with the great momentum Recycle-Bowl achieved in its second year, and our congratulations go out not just to Central High School, but to all the effort of students, teachers and school administrators across America,” said Matt McKenna, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful.
