3 hurt in Davenport head-on crash

Davenport Police say three people were hurt when a car and truck collided head-on just west of downtown Davenport, Iowa.

The wreck happened Tuesday, March 26, 2013 near the intersection of Taylor Avenue and 2nd Street right by the Kraft Foods and Oscar Mayer plant. Police responded to the scene just before 4 a.m.

Police said a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 53-year-old Kathy Scott of Milan, Illinois was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on 2nd Street when it crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 1998 Chevy S-10 truck driven by Robert Berhenke, 52, of Moline.

Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles.

Police said the passenger in the Grand Am, 43-year-old John Scott of Davenport, ran from the scene of the crash and was located later.

“Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this crash and criminal charges are pending,” according to a statement from the Davenport Police Department.

All three of the people involved in the crash were taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Second Street reopened after being closed for several hours as police investigated the crash.
