MidAmerican Energy will answer questions Tuesday about the rumored $3 billion power plant that Wilton residents are concerned about.

The company says it's has done soil testing in between 140th and 150th Streets near Trail Avenue. That is south of both Wilton and Durant in Muscatine County.

The company had a private meeting with about 40 landowners in September about their testing. MidAmerican will answer questions in front of the general public for the first time Tuesday night. The company has thought about building a nuclear or natural gas power plant, but it has made no plans to do so.

The company said in September that a power plant could create 350 jobs. Since November, landowners near the site have distributed a petition, calling on MidAmerican to answer questions in front of the public. Neighbors are still worried about a nuclear power plant harming the air in the area.

The company is also interested in building its plant in southwestern Iowa. No word on when or if it will decide on one of these locations. Tuesday's meeting starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Muscatine Community Center.
