A woman convicted of manufacturing methamphetamine now faces perjury charges in connection with that trial.
Cindy Lea Stewart, 56, was sentenced to six years in prison after she was convicted in Mercer County in 2011 for manufacturing meth. Stewart is serving her sentence at the Decatur Correctional Center.
Mercer County State’s Attorney Gregory McHugh says Stewart is now accused of lying during her testimony in that trial.
After she was arrested on the met charge, Stewart was released on bond with a condition that she would have no contact with her husband, James K. Stewart, who was held in the Mercer County Jail.
McHugh says jail records indicate Cindy had visited her husband multiple times, and that she also had telephone conversations with him, in violation of her bond conditions. McHugh says Cindy Stewart also lied during her own trial about whether or not she had contact with her husband.
Cindy Stewart now faces three counts of felony perjury. She remains in the Decatur Correctional Center.
James K. Stewart, 61, is serving a 10-year prison sentence at the Sheridan Correctional Center after he, too, was convicted in Mercer County of manufacturing methamphetamine.
