Iowa Beef Council

Ten Iowa restaurants were chosen from more than 300 nominees for one that makes the best burger in Iowa.

The Iowa Beef Council began accepting nominations in February and, after about a month of taking suggestions, they’ve released the list of the ten Iowa restaurants that received the most nominations for the best burger in the state.

The contest is an annual affair, with Coon Bowl III in Coon Rapids winning the 2012 championship.

Rastrelli’s bacon cheeseburger in Clinton and the Quad Burger at Pepperjack’s in Davenport were finalists last year.

An anonymous panel of judges will try burgers at the finalist locations before the winner is chosen.  The champion burger will be selected based on presentation, appearance, taste and safety (cooked to a medium 160 degrees).

No Quad Cities-area restaurants made the top ten list for 2013.  The closest restaurant to our area on the list is 61 Chop House in Mediapolis.

Finalists are:

61 Chop House – Mediapolis

Ankeny Diner – Ankeny

B&B Grocery, Meat & Deli – Des Moines

Elm’s Club – Creston

First Street Grille – Keosauqua

JB’s Bar & Grill – Marcus

Rosco’s – Norwalk

Sam’s Sodas and Sandwiches – Carroll

The Ritz – Arnold Park

Zombie Burger – Des Moines

The winner will be announced May 2, 2013.  Follow the Iowa Beef Council on Facebook – click here.
