A Muscatine man was sentenced to five years in prison after a jury convicted him of assaulting a 79-year-old mall security guard over a parking ticket.

A Muscatine man was sentenced to five years in prison after a jury convicted him of assaulting a 79-year-old mall security guard over a parking ticket.

William Clark was reportedly placing a notice for illegal parking on a car at the Muscatine Mall on Friday, August 2, 2012 when Scott Chancey attacked him.

Muscatine County Attorney Alan Ostergren said Clark suffered a fractured hip, a compound fracture of the arm and other injuries in the attack.

Chancey, 50, was originally charged with misdemeanor assault.  Because of the nature and severity of Clark’s injuries, the charges were enhanced to felony assault causing serious injury.

“Mr. Chancey assaulted the victim without any provocation and caused serious injuries to the victim.  The sentence of imprisonment was well-deserved,” Ostergren said.

Chancey was sentenced March 22, 2013 to a prison sentence not to exceed five years and a fine of $750.
