Authorities across the state of Illinois are renewing their commitment to solving the disappearance and death of then-seven-year-old Dalton Mesarchik.

Dalton vanished from the front yard of his family’s home in Streator, Illinois March 26, 2003.  His body was found the next day in the Vermillion River.  Police said a hammer was used in Dalton’s murder.

A year later, a task force was formed to focus in solving Dalton’s disappearance and death.

The case remains unsolved.   A reward of $50,000 is offered for information that helps solve the case.

Officials from state, Livingston and LaSalle counties and Streator law enforcement agencies hope someone can help them solve the case as the tenth anniversary of Dalton’s disappearance approaches.

Anyone with information about Dalton’s murder, the hammer or the location where Dalton’s body was found is asked to contact your local police department, the Illinois State Police Dalton Mesarchik Task Force at (815) 844-1500, extension 2321 or (217) 278-5004.  You can contact the task force by email daltonm@isp.state.il.us or by regular mail at Illinois State Police, Zone 5 Investigations, Attention Mesarchik Case Agent, 800 South Old Airport Road, Pontiac, Illinois 61764.
