Contrary to some popular beliefs, one survey says march Madness might actually have no impact or a positive impact on worker productivity.
Results of the study by administrative staffing company OfficeTeam show one in five executives say worker morale is boosted by participating in March Madness activities.
Three-quarters of the managers surveyed said March Madness events have no impact on productivity or morale. Twenty percent said they improve employee morale and about four percent said they had a negative impact on morale in the workplace.
OfficeTeam executive director Robert Hosking said managers should acknowledge the bonding and team-building that happen with events like the NCAA basketball tournament.
“It’s often better for managers to acknowledge the appeal of events like March Madness and provide opportunities for their staff to enjoy the festivities rather than ignore them,” Hosking said.
ABC News reports some managers remain uncomfortable with employees bring play time into work time.
“Certain people are less responsible,” CEO John Challenger said. “Work gets shirked.”
Sports nuts who prove themselves to be a distraction or to negatively impact productivity could still find themselves in trouble at work, risking action raging from discipline to being fired.
