Four-year-old driver hurt in Davenport dirt bike crash

Police said a four-year-old suffered head, spine and leg injuries when the dirt bike he was riding crashed into a car on a Davenport street.

Police said a four-year-old suffered head, spine and leg injuries when the dirt bike he was riding crashed into a car on a Davenport street.

Police were called to the wreck in the 2900 block of North Harrison Street at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, March 17, 2013.

Police said a Matherville, Illinois man was driving a 2013 Camaro southbound on Harrison Street when the 50cc dirt bike travelled out of the alley south of 30th Street and struck the front driver’s side of the Camaro.

The four-year-old driver of the dirt bike was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City.  Police said ER doctors described the child’s injuries as head and spinal injuries and a fractured right leg.

The child’s injuries were reportedly not life-threatening.
