A Kewanee, Ill. man battling cancer and his wife who helps care for him received their dream wedding and honeymoon thanks to the kindness of strangers.

ABC News reports Nolan Keane, 28, has been battling brain cancer for the past four years. Morgan Carstens, 26, Keane’s wife is a registered nurse and had put her work on hold to move in with Keane’s family to help care for him.

Last November Keane proposed to Carstens on a family trip to Disney World. A surprise to Carstens, Keane got out of his wheelchair and down on one knee.

“We went to go see the fireworks. Since there was so much walking, he told me, ‘My back is really hurting. Can you get me out the wheelchair?’ And then [he] got down on one knee and I forgot to say yes. I think he kind of knew by my response,” she said.

A  recent MRI showed that Keane’s cancer had spread and doctors said he had months to live. He told his family as his final wish he wanted to marry Carstens and take her on a honeymoon to Walt Disney World.

Carsten’s sisters worked to give the couple their dream wedding they knew they couldn’t afford. So they reached out to the community, raising money and awareness on Facebook.

In February, a fundraising page on GiveForward.com was set up. This website raises money for medical crises.

In four days strangers had given $60,000 which exceeded their original goal of $20,000 to put toward their honeymoon.

Donations have now totaled $66,397.
