St. Patrick’s Day is cause for celebration, but also a time to remember responsible behavior.
The Rock Island and Moline Police Departments announced special patrols they will be conducting around St. Patrick’s Day to reduce drunk driving.
“We are reminding everyone this weekend to Driver Sober or Get Pulled Over and Click It or Ticket,” said Sgt. Tim DeVrieze. “If you plan on drinking alcohol, designate a sober driver before the party begins. Be responsible or risk a DUI.”
The crack-down on drunk driving will begin Thursday, March 14 and run through Sunday, March 17 for both departments.
Area police want people hosting parties to know that as a host you can be held responsible if someone you serve alcohol to is involved in a drunk driving crash.
Party-hosts are advised to keep a list of local cab companies for anyone needing a ride home.
All drivers are reminded to wear their seatbelt to protect against intoxicated drivers on the road and to stay ticket-free during the week.
The Illinois State Police District 7 will also be concentrating on alcohol violations around St. Patrick’s Day.
On Saturday, March 16, The Loop riverfront circulator will begin at 3 p.m. instead of 5 p.m. and will run until it makes its last stop in Bettendorf at 1:45 a.m.
To accommodate for the busy night, four buses will be running Saturday evening- two traveling clockwise and two traveling counter-clockwise.
The Loop riverfront circulator is a safe means of travel for riders looking to participate in St. Patrick’s Day downtown events. It travels to Bettendorf, the Village of East Davenport, Davenport, The District in Rock Island, and Moline.
