With spring in sight, next comes the summer planning.

A park ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Mississippi River Project has announced that they will offer two free boating safety classes.

After an eight hour session, attendants will receive an Illinois DNR Boat Safety Certification after they pass a written exam.

The class is available for all ages and anyone over 12 may receive certification, which is honored in both Illinois and Iowa.

The classes will be Saturday, March 16 and Saturday, March 30, from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. at the Mississippi River Project Office at Locks and Dam 14 in Pleasant Valley, Iowa.

Space is limited and pre-registration is required. To sign-up contact the park rangers at 309-794-5338.
