There's a changing of the guard at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Lt. Gen. Mick Bednarek relinquished command of First Army during a ceremony at the Rock Island Arsenal Thursday.

Bednarek assumed command on April 6, 2011 at Fort Gillem, Georgia. He continued those same duties when the unit was transferred to the Arsenal.

His next tour of duty is in Iraq as the Chief of the Office of Security Cooperation and will work with the U.S. State Department.

The outgoing commander will be replaced by Major General Kevin Wendel.
