Three losses in one season was a new high for Iowa senior Matt McDonough, whose Big Ten tournament loss to the Illini’s Jesse Delgado was capped by an apparent act of frustration.

The Daily Iowan reports Delgado was the only wrestler ever to beat McDonough twice.  Delgado won the match 10-4.

When he lost to Delgado in the finals at the Big Ten tournament, McDonough was apparently unhappy with the second-place medal.  McDonough reportedly marked the achievement by throwing the medal in the trash.

McDonough did not speak to reporters after the match.

Iowa finished 0-4 in the championship round and finished the tournament in third place.  Minnesota took second and Penn State won its third consecutive Big Ten title.
