It’s hard to believe St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner. The Quad Cities definitely knows how to put on a party this time of year and will draw crowds from across the country to help celebrate. I have friends coming in from Milwaukee and Florida this weekend just for St. Patrick’s Day! How did this even happen? Is there a large Irish community here? Not that I’m complaining. I suppose it is a great reason to get out of the house after a long winter of being indoors. In fact our normal high temperature for St. Patrick’s Day is 49°! The average low is 30°.

As of this Tuesday afternoon unfortunately it looks like we may be experiencing a cooler than normal holiday. We have a chance for a rain and snow mix very early that morning but skies should become at least partly sunny by parade time. Cross your fingers that the timing holds!

In years recent, temperatures have been fantastic! Last year we set a record high for the day of 82°! In 2011 we had a high of 61°. You actually have to go back to 2008 to find temperatures that were in the 40’s on that day.

While I’m not looking forward to looking for a parking spot or standing out in the cold, I have always looked forward to seeing everyone out at the parade. People are genuinely excited to be there and start the weekend off right. My co-workers are fun to be around and it’s one of the few times a lot of us are together in one place just enjoying each others company. I hope to see you out there and if you see me, just say “hey!”.
