Automatic spending cuts are beginning to hit home.

A roundtable discussion with Lt. Gen. Mick Bednarek and the First Army was held on Monday at the Rock Island Arsenal.

Bednarek said that the Arsenal has served the First Army well. He is optimistic about the future of the Arsenal, even as employees stand by for potential furloughs.

“You’ve got to do what matters with less,” said Bednarek. “Identifying what those requirements are to make sure we can maximize and do everything we can to sustain the readiness of our army.”

According to a recent army analysis, spending cuts could end up costing the Arsenal $197 million.
