A group of brave souls didn’t let a little rain keep them from helping a good cause.

The Polar Plunge took place in Rock Island on Sunday at Wicks Lake at Jumer's Casino and Hotel. People who wanted to “take the plunge” registered to jump in the lake and then jump straight into a hot shower.

“It was great,” said Polar Plunge participant, Daniel Midgett. “The water was a little warm so it took a little while to get used to it but once you got in it was like perfect.”

Participants were treated to a lunch afterward and got to enjoy a post-plunge party.

The event raises money for the Special Olympics Illinois athletes, with a goal of reaching $40,000.
