Local hockey players shave their heads for cancer research

The Quad City Jr. Flames hockey team shaved their heads Sunday to raise money for kids with cancer.

The Quad City Jr. Flames hockey team shaved their heads Sunday to raise money for kids with cancer.

This is the second year the team has partnered with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation for the cause. The foundation raises money for children’s cancer research. Shaving their heads is a way for the Jr. Flames to show solidarity to those who are facing the battle with cancer.

Fans donate to individual players or the team who are having their heads shaved. The goal this year was $10,000, almost double what they raised last year.

The head-shaving event began after the team’s final regular season home game where they clenched a playoff spot.

Anyone who wishes to donate to this cause can do so at St. Baldrick’s website.
