Daylight Saving Time (DST) has come again, so don’t forget to set your clocks ahead one hour as we “Spring Forward.”

The change will occur Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m., so the best time to change your clocks is sometime before bed on Saturday night.

Getting to a standardized DST has not been an easy road for the United States. By 1962, Iowa communities had 23 different dates assigned for the DST switch twice per year, according to Seize the Daylight author, David Prerau.

A headline in the Local News Section of the Des Moines Sunday Register on September 6, 1964 read “Daylight Time Spreads Nightmare of Chaos across Iowa.”

In 1966 Congress established the Uniform Time Act which standardized DST across the country. The law includes the option for individual states to opt out of DST by passing a state law.

Arizona and Hawaii do not observe DST, according to Weather.com.
