A physician with ties to our area is accused of crashing a car while she was driving under the influence.

Dr. Decontee Jimmeh Fletcher, 30, was arrested March 6, 2013 in Iowa City after police said she crashed  a Toyota 4Runner into some trees at Mormon Trek Boulevard and Hawkeye Park Road.

Police said Fletcher was sitting in the passenger seat of the vehicle when they arrived at the scene of the crash just after 1:30 a.m.  She allegedly lied about her name and date of birth but gave her real identity when she was told she was being taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

The Iowa City Press-Citizen reports police said Fletcher, and a cup found in her vehicle, smelled like alcohol and that she admitted to drinking wine before driving.  She reportedly refused breath and chemical testing.

The hospital’s website shows Fletcher is a clinical assistant professor of neurology there.

GenesisHealth.com also lists Fletcher as having an association with a neurology practice in Davenport, Iowa.  The practice’s website did not list her as a providing physician.

Court records show Fletcher she faces one count of operating while under the influence first offense.  She was also cited by Iowa City for obstructing a peace officer and for failure to maintain control.

Fletcher was released from the Johnson County Jail on her own recognizance.  She was next scheduled to appear in court March 26, 2013.
