A recent survey at one local high school shows more than 40% of students admitted to driving under the influence and nearly 90% said they text and drive.
Students involved in the Operation Teen Safe Driving program surveyed more than 200 teens in the Monmouth-Roseville High School area.
The Review Atlas reports the survey results were sent home to parents in a newsletter.
Among the results, 42% said they have driven under the influence. Twenty-five percent said they have ridden with someone who has been under the influence.
Eighty-eight percent said they text and drive and 13% said they have been in a car with a person who texted and drove.
Operation Teen Safe Driving was launched in rural Tazewell County, Illinois after 15 teens died in 15 months there. The program provides resources and incentives to Illinois schools to develop programs to reduce traffic crash fatalities.
