Original story March 6, 2013:

Bumble Bee Foods is voluntarily recalling some five-ounce packages of canned tuna because the cans may not be tightly sealed.

The Food and Drug Administration announced the recall Wednesday, March 6, 2013.

“Loose seals or seams could result in product contamination by spoilage organisms or pathogens and lead to illness if consumed,” said the recall notice on the FDA website.

No illness had been reported in connection with the recalled canned tuna.

Bumble Bee recalled five-ounce cans of chunk light tuna with “best buy code” dates of January 16, 17 and 18 of 2016.  The cans are sold in 48-can cases, 24-can cases, four-packs and eight-packs.

The recall also includes 48-can cases of some Brunswick brand tuna.

The recalled cans were distributed nationwide in January and February of this year.
