An employee suffered burns to his hand and head in a fire at his Camanche, Iowa workplace.

Fire department officials said the worker was using a grinder too close to flammable liquids which ignited.  That started a fire inside Economy Coatings, 414 21st Street, just before 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

Workers used several extinguishers to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.  Emergency crews cleared smoke that spread throughout the building.

Damage to the structure was minor, and damage to the contents was estimated at $500.

The injured employee was taken to an area hospital by private vehicle, and his injuries were not considered life-threatening.
